In 1898 the population of Amsterdam presented the “GOUDEN KOETS” (golden carriage) to the young Queen Wilhelmina of the Netherlands. The stately carriage is normally only used during the “PRINSJESDAG” (literally: day of the princes), the third Tuesday in September when the plans and national budget for the Netherlands are officially presented. The GOUDEN KOETS is the vehicle used by the Queen to make a tour through The Hague during this day.
The stately carriage has recently been renovated using various Sikkens products. The joints on the roof are first filled with Componex WR. This filler for exterior is sufficient flexible to follow the timber dimensions with changing temperature and humidity. Onol is used as a sound adhering primer, being finished with Rubbol AZ in a beige color. Rubbol AZ is the only visible coating of the GOUDEN KOETS. For the larger part, the carriage, mainly constructed from Java teak (Tectona Grandis), is coated with gold leaf.
