Sikkens: the right color

When the Westbourne complex of luxury flats and shops in the heart of Notting Hill, London, needed a facelift, products from the Sikkens range of surface coating systems were used for the external redecoration.

Originally designed in 1985 and completed in 1987, the exterior of the building was badly in need of a revamp, having suffered the elements of time and general London traffic and pollution. Architects Casper Small of Hove, took on the refurbishment project.

Sikkens Rubbol opaque coatings were used for the exterior woodwork, including the Scandinavian factory-finished windows and metalwork. Rubbol AZ is a high gloss finish which combines standards of adhesion and colour retention enabling maintenance periods to be extended and redecoration to require only a one coat application.

The entire project took only six months to complete and cost £70,000, but the end result is pleasing to both Architects and end-users, with a rejuvenated Westborne complex for the Millennium and beyond.

According to Mr Small of Caspar Small Architects, the project was completed with care and attention to the original specification without altering the appearance and image of the complex.
